This year we are celebrating food and to this end, we are inviting stitchers of all kinds, beginners, intermediate and/or advanced, to depict their favourite 'soul food' memory. FREE but register your interest by clicking to the form link below.
Following on last year's large scale flag project, we are this year choosing the more intimate setting of the dinner table, with chats, hand stitching, embroidery and crochet to bring together people from all cultures to celebrate their favourite food in this multicultural celebration of the central place food holds in our hearts and bodies, and its importance for our physical and mental health. Memories of favourite foods will be shared as well as skills exchanged, teaching each other, sharing receipes, stitches and the occasional Irish phrase pertaining to Irish food customs. Textile artists Theresia Guschlbauer and Aisling Egan will be amongst the artistic team who will be available throughout the project to support the participants in the development of their ideas.
If you like a bit of stitching, story sharing, learning new skills, picking up new ideas (and reciepes) and meeting new people, come along and join in this joyous multi cultural cross-community project. We will create colourful tablemats and an elaborate final table installation to be displayed at various settings during the festival, including a festive community Street Feast on the final day of the festival on Sunday 29th September.
