Johanna-Adele Jüssi Trio

Tunes from the Lynx Valley

Originally from Estonia and now living in Northern Norway, fiddle player Johanna-Adele Jüssi spent much of her life travelling around the Nordic countries as well as Germany and the Shetland Isles. Along the way she developed a unique musical voice, which she calls “music from the Lynx Valley”, describing this as “the place I wanted to live, where my musical wanderings could rest and develop.”  Johanna-Adele’s music and her raw  elegant expression provide listeners with a glimpse of this imaginary land. Whether she plays for dancing or listening, Johanna-Adele is always in the present, creating the moment and filling it with meaning.

Jüssi will be coming to Ireland for a short tour in late September 2024, performing with her trio that includes Bendik Lund Haanshus (guitars) and bass player Erlend Smalås and taking up position as Clonmel Applefest's 2024 Band in Residence

Together the trio weave folk tunes with elements of Nordic jazz, steeped in Jüssi’s deep knowledge learned through her travels, which Talkington assures the readers is delivered with a style that is “warm and brilliantly engaging”.

In the Norwegian newspaper DN, music critic Auden Vinger comments that “When Jüssi puts down the fiddle to sing it is as if time stands still - remarkably beautiful. With just the right amount of explanatory interlude, she managed to manifest feelings of longing, people she has met and natural phenomena”. In addition to the captivating music, Jüssi’s storytelling stage craft draws in an audience before a note is played, seducing the listener with stories that frame the music.

Catch the Johanna-Adele Jüssi Trio live throughout the festival at various events... you never know where they might pop up!
