Shakir Khan (India) is one of the most promising young exponents of the legendary Etawah Gharana, following in the footsteps of his father and guru, the renowned sitar maestro Padma Shri Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan. As the eighth-generation torchbearer of this distinguished musical lineage, Shakir carries forward a rich tradition of sitar and surbahar, tracing back several generations. He will be accompanied by his trusted collaborator Debajyoti Sanyal (Kolkata, India), a world-class exponent of Indian classical Tabla.
With a deep command of sur (melody) and laya (rhythm), Shakir’s performances captivate audiences worldwide. His artistry extends beyond classical music, seamlessly blending into international fusion projects such as the European Jazz Ensemble (Germany) and Human Evolution (Spain). Committed to preserving and sharing his heritage, he founded SwarSetu in memory of his grandfather, training students globally.
Shakir has graced prestigious festivals including Dover Lane Music Conference (Kolkata), Sawai Gandharva Festival (Pune), Saptak Festival (Ahmedabad), Bombay Festival, Tansen Music Festival (Gwalior), and Shankarlal Music Festival (Delhi). He has also performed extensively across the US, Canada, and Europe, including a celebrated appearance at Woodstock Festival, Poland (2008).
Debajyoti Sanyal (Kolkata, India) A world-class exponent of Indian classical Tabla, Debajyoti began his training at the age of four under his father before learning from the legendary Pandit Anindo Chatterjee and Pandit Shankar Ghosh. He regularly performs across India and internationally, blending extraordinary virtuosity with deep expression.
