BRAVE by Gerardine Wisdom

Location: Old St Mary’s Church grounds

This site-specific sculpture by artist Gerardine Wisdom, in collaboration with Elke Wilson, is the culmination of 6 months exploration of what ‘brave’ might mean in today’s world. With the pandemic still rearing its head and climate change staring us in the face, the sculpture aims to represent a ‘new brave’, one that is young, female, somewhat brash and very resilient, as epitomised by young people all over the world, specifically Greta Thunberg who was most nominated by the local TY students who participated in workshops earlier this year. The sculpture will be on view in the grounds of Old St Mary’s from early September onwards.


The Caim Coracle Project

Write your messages of farewell to add to the Coracle at the Apple, Heritage & Biodiversity Fair or Community Picnic Feast.

In ancient times, the coracle was used to navigate the rivers, lakes, and seas of Ireland. The Caim was a profound ‘circling prayer’ used by ancient Celts to symbolise protection or the encircling of love. As part of the Indigenous project, our team of makers constructed this traditional coracle from local materials enhanced with ornamental willow weaving. We will come together to use our ‘Caim Coracle’ as a vessel to navigate our grief, to celebrate the lives of those we have lost during Covid and to transport our messages of love as we set this intricately woven boat afloat on the waters of the river Suir as part of our Indigenous Harvest Procession on Sunday 26th September.


Community Feast Food Challenge

Location: Old St Mary’s Church grounds

We are inviting our Applefest chefs to go wild in the kitchen with their food creations! Choose from one of our five categories: Best International Dish; Best Dessert; Best Dish using Tipperary Produce; Best Vegetarian Dish; Best Finger Food. All creations will be tasted and shared out at our Community Garden Feast on Sunday 26th September with best the dishes receiving one of several attractive prizes from the Tannery in Dungarvan, Manis Restaurant, Allens of Clonmel, the Tipperary Food Producers and Paul Tobin Butchers.
