Drawing on her researches for her newly published book, Ireland’s Green Larder, Margaret Hickey gives an overview of the country’s ancient food culture from the earliest times up to the present day. She makes special reference to the fruit and vegetables eaten over the centuries and the importance of the apple. Expect a lively and fascinating account of Irish food history.
Margaret Hickey worked in London for many years, both as a freelance writer for The Times, The Financial Times, The Guardian and more, and also as food and drink editor of Country Living magazine. Her first book, Irish Days, is a collection of oral histories, and her new book, Ireland's Green Larder is a social history of Ireland, seen through food and drink. For many years, Margaret has been a judge at Strokestown International Poetry Festival and is deputy director of the Shorelines Arts Festival in Portumna. She is an experienced speaker and broadcaster.
