Wild Plants & Creatures Trail with Louise Garcia
Location: Old St Mary’s Church & Greenane Blueway
Try out our 2 biodiversity trails in the company of one of our favourite collaborators Louise Garcia. Louise will reacquaint you with some of our common and lesser loved wild plants; nettles, ivy, the briar, which feed and shelter our wildlife and pollinators. Choose between a town or a riverside trail. Bring your phone to scan the QR codes along the way and listen to Louise tell you more about the treasures of nature and why we should cherish and nurture biodiversity.
Louise is an entomologist, educationalist, performer and passionate animal and plant lover. She is also a fantastic researcher and a very entertaining communicator.
Walk on the Wild Side: Poetry Lane
Location: Market Place, Clonmel
Come and take a walk on the wild side down Poetry Lane as you read or listen to a selection of poems from the Applefest Poetry Call Out. Each poem features a QR code that plays a voice recording of the poet reading their piece.
Apple of my Eye Bunting Project
Location: Various lampposts on the main streets of Clonmel
This ‘at home’ project was devised by the Applefest artistic team to enable community participation in the beautification of our town and the celebration of the humble apple. Using old apple core illustrations as a starting point and repurposed canvas, we encourage participants to use their observation and creative skills to draw an apple and decorate it with ornaments of their own choice. Special thanks to all those who contributed a flag.
The Wildest Bake Off Ever!
We are inviting our Applefest bakers to go wild in the kitchen with their creations. As we won’t be able to taste all the delicious desserts this year, we are asking bakers to send us a photo or short video clip of their bakes to feature in our Wildest Bake Off video montage. We will select a winner who will be awarded an apple tree. Winner to be announced on Saturday 26th at 4pm.
Applefest Juicy Prize Draw
We are delighted to announce our juicy prize draw featuring 6 amazing prizes donated by local and Irish businesses. To be in with a chance of winning, buy your ticket here. Winners will be announced on Sunday 27th September. (All proceeds go towards the online production costs of Applefest 2020.)
Wild & Wonderful Shop Window Challenge
Location: Shop windows throughout the town of Clonmel
We invited local businesses to go wild for the month of September and dress their windows with our Wild & Wonderful theme to enhance the town and support their local festival.
Wild Creatures Installation
Location: Roundabouts of Clonmel
We are bringing back last year’s Wild Creatures to celebrate the bounty of nature and the power of creativity. Look out for the revamped figures and let them bring a smile to your face. Special thanks to Elke Wilson for taking on the job!
